If you haven’t noticed already, Sid Meier’s Civilization Network(CivNetwork) has now been renamed to CivWorld. The rename was announced just as CivWorld begins to recruit small numbers of players for alpha testing.
This new conversion of the Civilization series to a Facebook game has been a long time in the making and we’re only just getting to see some of the aspects of gameplay involved.
It is quite an exciting time as we expect much from Sid Meier’s team in the development on this game. Personally, I feel that the game needs to bring somehting new and innovative to Facebook in order to be a real success. If it reveals itself to be another Zynga Facebook game clone then it will be at the bottom of a large pile of “daily-task-earn-some-stars” games which have overrun Facebook.

“2KGreg” of 2kgames(creators of Civilization 5) wanted to reassure Civ5 players by saying:
“Just to let everyone know, Civ World is Sid’s project through and through; it’s his baby and he’s personally coding much of it. It’s been in development since long before Civilization V’s release. Firaxis is a pretty large studio with multiple teams. So take that in to consideration when making assumptions about who’s working on what and since when! 
”
