BetterScape is a Facebook game that rewards and promotes people for doing good deeds in daily life. The game encourages players to tell short, real-life stories about how their friends improve the world around them. For example, “Jenny, you did a great job organizing the company fundraiser for orphans in Haiti…”
A key part of the game is rewarding others with karma points in specific ‘good deed’ categories. These points let players earn badges like Earth Saver, Do Gooder, Fun Maker, Super Friend, Super Parent, Mentor, and Problem Solver. As your friends give you karma points in a specific category, you “level up” – meaning you can become a Level 7 Artist or a Level 12 Problem Solver. The point is, the game rewards you for who you are in the real world and gives you an opportunity to reward others for what they do best.
Consistent with the theme of doing good deeds for the world, BetterScape donates 90% of the revenue from the sale of virtual karma refills to a different set of high-impact 501c(3) non-profits every month.
